Taking part in a Wetcanvas Challenge, I've started by doing a yellow crocus in coloured pencil, and now it seems to have evolved into a Triffid! As always, just click the image below for a larger version:
It's not finished yet, still needing some more layers and a darker background, but this is what it looks like so far - I hope you like!
I love this so far- very pretty and I like the colors you have chosen. Great start ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't explored colour pencils that much, I tend to go for graphite pencils more, thinking it's easier as you don't have to choose what colour you're working with. But I am enjoying the freedom of choosing colours, and seeing the surprising results that comes from it! Definitely teaching me a lot this drawing - I love it! :)
Triffid? LOL I haven't thought of them in a long time. Day of the Triffids was one of my all time favorite horror movies as a kid. I even read the book.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is good. Keep going. Start thinking more about dark areas. Get a real flower and see where it's dark. Like the inside around the stamen. Place a light source (lamp or flashlight) in different places around the flower and see where the shadows fall. Sketch each one. A lot of it is observing. This will be used when you do a scene and the sun is setting or high in the sky.
LOL, yes a Triffid. They did a remake of 'Day of the Triffids' on BBC at Christmas (odd time to show it I know), and it got me hooked!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I have added some more dark areas now, I've posted an update of the image in my next blog post. I think it's come along pretty well, though of course I am still learning!
The flower I am drawing from is actually a still photograph, so I can't light it up from different angles - though I agree it would be great practice if I did do that!
